[DISCUSSION] After two years of playing, I finally learned a couple of scales and ‘jammed’ to a backing track…

And holy shit, I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner.

For two years, all I really did was learn songs that I liked – and it was fun enough that I didn’t bother to worry about anything else. When I finally decided I would try something different (which was today), I went for the Major Scale – I had already known the first pattern but never did anything with it. I learned the next two patterns and somewhere along the way I decided to try playing along with a backing track.

I put on the first result on YouTube and started playing random notes from the three patterns. It was the worst song I had heard in my entire life. But it was fun, and more importantly I felt like I had opened a door that I never knew existed, and in the moment I felt that instead of playing songs, I was playing guitar.

Just wanted to share because it was a cool experience, and I can’t wait to do it again!
