[Discussion] best way to learn notation?

So Ive been playing for close to 35 years now. 8 of those years were steady gigs in cover bands. I know my way around the fretboard for most scales and modes and I know enough theory to be able to communicate with other musicians. But I still cant read music!

I mean, technically I can; I just need a notepad, graphing calculator, and a team of engineers to help me translate it into tab first haha. The real problem is that Ive NEVER been in a situation where I needed to sight-read so its something Ive never practiced.

Anyway, my idea was to grab a little keyboard and start some beginner lessons to get me comfortable with sight reading before ever bringing a guitar into it. But then I had the thought that I could ask this group for ideas. So, any recommendations?
