[DISCUSSION] Why do so many different bands use E-flat tuning?

Hey guys, just noticed this while experimenting with down tuning, that dozens of bands that I know of use E-flat for some reason. And unlike D-standard or lower tunings that are almost exclusively used only in Metal, E-flat can be found everywhere: blues rock, classic rock, punk, metal (power metal in particular for some reason, thrash also), grunge, and the list goes on. I’m wondering if anyone read about the artists that down-tuned a half step, what were their reasons for it? Especially since those artists did it for very different genres. Your personal opinions are also welcomed.

Thanks!
