[NEWBIE] Guitar for Metal. A lot of Questions.

Hello everyone.

I am a complete beginner when it comes to guitars(have only borrowed a friend’s classical for a few days) and I have been itching to get myself a budget electric guitar+amp set, see where it goes from there.

Now, I have read a lot of posts where most people say that it doesn’t really matter for a beginner what gear you will choose, so I went with what looks good to me and some basics features I deemed noteworthy from information I gathered online. My goal is to mainly play Black Metal, DSBM and Death/Deathcore, with some falling back to some of the 90s-2000s Heavy/NU Metal I grew up with, every now and again. My guitar of choice is the Harley Benton ST-20HH Active LH SBK and what led me to it was, first of all, the color and design, the double humbucker pickups, the fixed bridge and the output placement. Although, I can’t help but have questions about this whole deal.

  1. How does this look as a first guitar, considering my area of interest?
  2. Are the active pickups a pro or a con(cause i’ve heard both and I have no idea how this 9v battery thing works)?
  3. Do the double humbuckers limit me if I wake up one day and want to play something cleaner? Would a SSH be a safer all-round bet?
  4. Do I pair this up with a regular amp, say a Harley Benton HB-10G or a 20R(I think reverb is needed?) or does this route require more peripherals(for distrortion etc?) in order to create the sound of Black Metal or other genres? 4.b Would an extrernal soundcard paired with some sort of software be better(cause I haven’t found a difinitive answer on this one)?
  5. I picked this left handed guitar on purpose, since a problem on my left hand kinda forces it to be the picking hand. Would revesing the strings on a regular model(to provide for more options) make it sound weird? Should I stick with the left handed?

Thanks in advance.
