[QUESTION] How do I become a lead guitarist?

How do I improve?

Hey there, so I’ll keep it brief. I’m a self-taught guitarist. Been playing for 13 years. Started in my teens, now I’m in my late 20’s. I’m a very good rhythm guitarist. However, I’m completely clueless when it comes to lead/solos. Since I was self-taught, there are a lot of basic techniques I don’t even know the names for. I feel like I’m facing a giant wall that I don’t know how to climb. I wanna get better, I wanna be able to play solos and stuff. I’m a metal guitarist, if that bit of data is useful. Any and all tips and directions are welcome. I wanted to enroll into a course, but money is tight right now and I’d like to start improving before that time comes. This has been something bothering me for at least 5-6 years. I’m all eyes/ears. Thank you for your time.
