Through high school and college I played and built guitars fanatically. Lately I have been reminiscing and trying to catch up on which companies offer good bang for the buck, which products are the new gimmicks, and which are the true leaders.
I see a ton more extended range guitars on the market and it seems that everyone makes multi effect modelling pedals. Modelling processors were more or less gimmicks back when I played until you got into the high end pedal boards or rack mounted processors like the Eleven.
In your experience, what would you say has REALLY changed in the last 10 years? Specifically interested the mid range, home use, less than professional category, but also interested in hearing about the new meta for professionals.
EDIT: WOAH! There are a ton of things for me to research here! I will reply to everyone individually when I have a bit more time.
I was just looking at grabbing a Tele style with a humbucker bridge, lipstick neck, a small tube amp, and some pedals. Looks like I need to research some of these modeling amps for some variety. I have never even heard of impulse response but I am intrigued!
EDIT 2: I can’t thank you all enough. This thread has ignited that spark I had when I was younger. I was never a great, or even very good player, but I always loved guitars, gear, effects, etc. Building, fixing, tinkering. I have an unfinished solid walnut telecaster that I built (nearly 10 years ago) and this was the turning point. I am going to get a finish on it and get myself an amp!
