Hello!
I am currently going through a personal guitar renaissance and I was hoping to get some advice! I’ve been lurking for a month or so and this community seems very friendly.
I started playing when I was 6 and I played on and off until around 18. I never learned theory. I only ever learned how to replicate songs I liked through tabs.
Fast forward. I decided to get back into playing, but I wanted to teach myself music theory. I’ve taken two college courses on it years ago, but I only remember the very basics. I was hoping that I could tell yall where I’m starting at, and maybe where I should look towards.
What I’m doing: I play 7 string in Drop A (AEADGBE). I have a blank .png of a 7 string neck, and on my iPad, I made a guide for the A Minor scale. I have each mode mapped out and I’m learning to play that scale across the whole neck. Is it normal to spend a lot of time on one scale? Should I be looking more big picture? I’m enjoying working with A Minor because it is really helping me memorize note locations. Should I continue this?
