[Question] Getting out of the power chord box.

What’s up y’all! So I’ve been playing for about a year and a half. Initially picked up guitar as a means to start writing rock/metal tunes after getting a bit bored of the hip hop I’d been making over the years. Since then I’ve written and recorded probably 100 something songs/demos etc. lately on my newest project I’ve noticed how much of a crutch power chords have become for me. I’ve added some variation to them ie. using add 9 or root-6/add9 chords inversions etc. but still feel like I’m kinda staying in the same box. Playing more complex voicings ie. 7th chords etc. through my high gain setup sounds a little rough… was wondering if anyone had any suggestions! Thanks in advance!
