[QUESTION] I still feel like I don’t know how to play guitar and I’m not sure what to do.

Hello,

I’ve been playing guitar for a while now. My method has generally been pick a song and learn it.

I have no issues playing most chords. I feel like given enough time, I can play most solos. I’m agile enough, and my touch is pretty good naturally to the point where I can make most songs sound very good.

However, I still feel like my playing is limited to the things I’ve memorized. I don’t feel like I can create a new song idea freely, like I can on the piano, or jam on the entire neck with complete freedom and with (this is important) >INTENT<.

To the ears of most people, I’m a decent guitar player. However, I know for a fact that I know nothing about the guitar, and I’m not sure how to fix this.

Has anyone else experienced this, and how do I go about fixing this?
