My guitar recently broke on a flight and I am trying to figure out the reason. I have 10 guitars (used to have 11) and my favorite was my Gibson L150 acoustic electric guitar. I flew from Florida to NY with my Gibson where I had a show. On the flight back from NY to Florida, I checked my guitar at the check-in counter. I picked up the guitar from baggage claim and there were no marks on the case. When I got home and opened up the case, the neck was snapped near the head stock.
Someone mentioned that if my strings were too tight, the neck could snap like that while on a plane. But I have flown with my guitar so many times and never had an issue. Does the “strings too tight” explanation seem reasonable?
