Was Van Halen as mind-blowing as I think it was?

I’ve listened to “Best of rock 1976” playlist featuring The Eagles, Blue Oyster Cult and more bands from this period for past week. Today got my hands on Van Halen 1 CD and just had my second listen… I mean, compared to what rock music sounded like just two years prior to VH’s first album … It had to be mind-blowing right? Eddie had to be considered a God. I only knew “Eruption” before and I knew he influenced a lot of guitar players but this album is waaaay ahead of it’s times and nothing really sounds like it. Not for 1978!!! Any old-timers here who could chime on on that? I’d love to listen to opinions of someone who has lived through this. It had to be a revolution.
