So I’ve seen posts of people asking how to darken a fretboard. This weekend, I decided to buy a minwax wood stain pen and have a go at it myself.
Overall, it turned out decent. I was hoping for darker, but the grain on this fretboard is super small, so it makes it harder for the stain to absorb.
It was pretty easy, cheap, and the stain only gets on the wood, it wipes right off the binding, inlays, and finish.
I did 2 coats of dark walnut, and then finished with a coat of ebony. Doesn’t seem to come off on my fingers at all.
