[QUESTION] How do you keep getting better?

I feel like over the last few years I’ve completely hit a brick wall with my playing. Just like I’m not getting better at all. I’m definitely not a bad player- like I know my way around a guitar decently but I just don’t know how to keep getting better. I’ve been playing for like 7/8 years? Mostly self-taught.

I’m studying music currently and although I know I shouldn’t compare myself to others it’s really disheartening to just be completely blown out of the water by someone who’s been only playing for 2 years and is miles and miles ahead of me.

A lot of people say to learn scales so I learned lots of scales in C but I don’t know what to do with them. I know basic theory. Everyone seems to just say to keep learning songs that you like but I struggle to find stuff that is attemptable.

A lot of lead stuff it takes me forever to get a grasp on. I can improvise solos etc alright, and when I’m dedicated to playing a lead piece I can see it through eventually but it will take me an unreasonably long time- even if it’s something that probably should be easy. I’m a good rhythm guitarist but I feel like I’m stagnating by just playing riffs and power chords.

If anyone has any advice it would really be appreciated! I just don’t know where to take this at all.
