The Importance of Gain [Discussion]

Does anybody else find that dialling back the gain sometimes sounds heavier? Super high gain is fun to play, but feels kind of mushy and unsatisfying when playing along to a song. I’ve found that lowering the gain and adjusting the EQ for extra attack has improved my playing a lot, and that turning up the volume makes up for the lack of punch at lower volumes. Just feels more organic to me.
