[Question] Is playing over songs entirely by ear a good way to practice soloing?

So I want to learn how to solo and improvise on the guitar and so far in my guitar journey I’ve only learnt a couple of scales (major/minor pentatonic scale and major scale) and I try to improvise to backing tracks using those.

However I just put on a few songs that I really like and know well and starting soloing over it but wasn’t playing to a specific pattern. I basically just played a bunch of wrong notes first and eventually found a group of notes that sounded good with the song and I soloed with them. I will say it felt fucking amazing haha but I wasn’t sure if this was a good thing to be doing or not? Any advice?

I also should note that I have very limited music theory knowledge (am trying to learn), but I had no understanding of the key I was in or anything like that.
